StuCk In My AnGelZ HeArT!!!
Linux has come a long way lately.

Many people recommend Ubuntu. Personally, I hate the Gnome interface Ubuntu is bundled with. I like the KDE desktop much better, so you could try Kubuntu.

Personally, I use openSuse. I have 10.2 on my home PC and 10.3 on my laptop and work computer. I find Yast a very easy way to manage installation and deletion of software packages. it also makes administering the system very easy.

Linux has so-so support for NTFS. Your Linux partition will use either reiser or ext3. However you will be able to browsw your Windows partition and copy files from Windows to Linux. You will not be able to do it the other way around.

One thing that will be a pain is that you will have to do some extra tweaking and downloading to get mp3 and wmv files to play and you will have to install a technically illegal piece of software to play DVDs (though I can't see anyone bringing up charges for using illegal software for legal uses, like playing a DVD.) You may also have to do some fiddling to get 3d acceleration and wireless card to work.

Linux is a great OS. Not perfect, but it is certainly better than Windows. Just the tools available alone make Linux better (in my opinion). Commercial software is scarce, but the number of free packages is huge and the quality is usually excellent.

The only time I boot up Windows is to play some games, but I don't do that very often. Linux does have some commercial games available (e.g. Quake Wars: Enemy Terrritory) in addition to the free ones.

Yeahhhhh !!!! ubuntu is easy !!!

In my opinion try Linux Mint

I used Mint for awhile - it’s really no different than Ubuntu, just prettier and Mint offers the Software portal.

If you want the latest version, it’s Linux Mint 5 Elyssa.

Linux Mint 4 Daryna was the last stable release (before 5) and it has so many versions because they are based off of different distributions and/or use a different desktop manager.

Is this your first time using Linux? If so, I advise you stick to the Gnome desktop until you get more comfortable. It is the most Windows similar without a lot of modifications. Personally, I think KDE is a far superior manager but you need to get used to Linux first.

Currently there are two main Linux Mint editions, which is Linux Mint Light Edition and Main Edition. The only difference between Main and Light is that the Light does not include multimedia support and patented technologies - so, no playing MP3s, DVDs, viewing PDFs, etc. right out of the box - you’ll have to set that up yourself (in other words, go with the Main).

My suggestion: version 5 Main Edition (the only released v5 thus far).

    Hope you got enough information.

    Cheers

Kubuntu and Ubuntu are good for beginner.
SUSE is good for intermediate user.
    Fedora for expert user.
