Around 800 years ago Muslim Arabs invaded the Maldives and Sri Lanka. The Maldives was totally "converted". In Sri Lanka the local sinhalese resistance and the turmoil caused by the arrival of the Portuguese and other Europeans halted to some extent  the spread of the disease .But, Now strong jihadist element fueled by the petro-dollar from the Middle East and of recently from Malaysia has risen up under cover of the civil war in this strife torn island. The people are already suffering a civil war along ethnic lines.
