COLOMBO (AFP) – Explosions rocked the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo Friday as the military fired anti-aircraft guns against two suspected Tamil Tiger aircraft, officials and witnesses said.
Residents said they heard blasts in the capital as the military activated their air defence guns in several locations within the tightly-guarded capital.
Military officials said they were tracking two aircraft believed to be those of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), operating out of a narrow strip of land still under their control in the north-east of the island.
