Lunix C/C++ compiler

Hey !!!
Mama linux jst started (Beginner ) !!, and i compiled a C program but once i type g++ or cc and tyr to compile it gives an error saying unknown command !!
do i have to install any thing before compiling Pls anyone reply i am stuck!!!!!

gcc command......

i used "gcc" but it says that command not found !!!
