As soon as the news that he had decided to resign from BBS organization was known even the Mahanayakas complimented him says former President of BBS Ven. Kirama Wimalajothy Thero, the Director of Buddhist Cultural Center at Dehiwela.
Participating in an interview with a weekend newspaper Wimalajothy Thero said he kept away from activities of BBS as he couldn’t engage in publishing of Buddhist philosophical works and as he couldn't agree with certain activities of the BBS.
“I am a very composed person and not an agitative or a violent character. When some came to know I worked with the BBS they were surprised and some stopped coming to Sambuddhi Jayanthi Center. Two weeks ago I said I was resigning from the BBS for which not only lay people but the Mahanayakas too praised me.
The conflict that occurred at Aluthgama and Beruwala was created by the BBS targeting Muslims. The riots at Aluthgama are a conspiracy. The attack on a Buddhist priest on Poson Poya Day was carried out with a plan. When the incident was complained to the police they did not take any interest. As a result about 400 people surrounded the police and agitated. This created a big issue. I didn’t know about the meeting that was held at Aluthgama after this incident. I would not approve this meeting. Gnanasara Thero’s participation is also wrong,” said Ven. Wimalajothy thero.
When asked what he thought of BBS now Wimalajothy Thero said, “I am happy that the initial objectives of the BBS were achieved. However, I’m not happy about what has happened next. I feel sorry that Buddhist priests’ virtuous lives were blackened by joining such an organization.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Development Rajitha Senaratna has told a daily newspaper, “The extremist Buddhist forces, despite having conflicts with us, went to Norway, enjoyed themselves eating, drinking, dancing and also skiing. I was told this by Mr. Arnie Piertoff, a Norwegian. Galagoda Thero later told me, “Let’s forget the past. I too am taking your stand on Tamil people.” He said he met the Tamil diaspora and said a ‘Sanga summit should be held to develop the North and the South and national unity. Later, he withdrew from opposing the Tamils and without talking a single word regarding Tamil terrorism he began a Muslim enmity within a month. Their Tamil sickness is over but they have got a Muslim sickness now,” said Minister Senaratna.
