Health Ministry To take Back Project

Committee Chairman, Mahesh Pasqual meanwhile said that a meeting had been called by the Health Minster this week, wherein it was revealed that the Health Ministry would be taking over the project. ‘This is to be expected’ he said. “The MOU ran out in 2007 and since then we have been aware that the Health Ministry could take over the project whenever they wanted to.”
He said that as far as he knew, the Health Ministry planned to use the land that was allocated to the Hope Cancer Hospital Committee for building purposes, as there had been no ongoing building activity within the premises for a while. “I think they may have got a new donor,” he said. “Whichever way, our accounts — that were, sadly, not updated for a while due to the standstill in building activities — are now being audited by Ernst & Young, after which they will be handed over to the Attorney General, while the remaining funds will be handed over to the Health Ministry, as per the MOU.”
