Fonseka at Kiribathgoda town has been beaten until they had fled the area.    According to reports, when Mervin Silva’s thugs arrived to attack the JVP supporters who were engaged in the campaign, the police on duty in the area had withdrawn. The people who had gathered then had started attacking the thugs. At this the police had arrived and carried out a tear gas attack on the masses to save the thugs from being further beaten.
