The government must never give up the Presidential systems this is the only thing that kept a stable government in Sri Lanka. When compared to our neighbors our system is strong. For a devloping country you need that. Thats why we could achieve a GDP of over USD 2000 today.

As usual, this time we do not need any constitutional changes as the things are going in betterway with executive powers especially the war. UNP is always trying to scuttle the headway of everything due to their petty motives. UNP is not having any power base wherever. Even S.B took preferential votes from an outside place of his usual place of contest as he knows Rauff Hakeem's votes will be gathered by him.

Govt is obviously riding high after recent successes on the war front. It will get more votes at the next Gen election and will get more thugs into parliament. Get prepared.

If government go for a snap general election, they can easily get 135 seats under PR system.once it is done better to negotiate with opposition parties to get the balance 15 to change the constitution.

The day we have a single strong party to rule our country, only then we could lead our country to prosperity. If we had realised this few decades ago, the minorities' problems would have been solved without letting it to grow to this extent. Take for example Singapore, the same party is in power since its independence, hence it has progressed tremendously. Don't be frogs in the deep well, change your political agenda.

The funny thing is that the UNP, which ridiculed the, military campaigns in the East has now done a complete "U Turn" and praising the SL Forces. Fellow Sri Lankans!! Please remember how the UNP was insulting the forces when they captured 'Thoppigala'. These UNPers are a shameless bunch. Now they are offering the support because they don't want the government to go for an election. The word 'election' must be sending shivers down they're spine since they know that they will be wiped out in an election.

Good decision - The main opposition is trying to avoid the imminent defeat in the next general election, the ulterior objective is to get the govt to invite them for a national government. UNP made a huge mistake by opposing the war and mocking it all the while - now they just can not face the voters anymore. So this one is too little, too late.

Both SLFP or UNP didn't want each others' support at any time, though they make this type of Statements to public. But Sri Lankan voters have given the clear signal that we need only two main political parties and others are not wanted in the long run. It was proved in last cental & Wyamba elections too. Due to this politics ordinary man to suffer.

Well said sir. They know that UNP has no way of getting the power and now wants to change the constitution. You will get 2/3 majority from the people not from the rejected politicians. Go for election and ask a mandate from people.

But, Mr. Abeywardena crossed over at the proper time...didn't he?

Of course, the offer is too late and the timing of it is not appropriate. UPFA has reversed the fate of this country – From imminent disintegration to a secured unity. This Govt is the source of panacea, not the constitution, to all the illness Srilanka suffered for the past 3 decades. We don’t need bendy leaders or bendy constitution, but a leader with strong spine and Will, like MR. This Govt keeps the terrorists and their leadership on the run to save their skins, and no constitution can achieve what this Govt has achieved. We are happy with the way the country is governed and the war is pursued. So why would one want to change the constitution? The offer of the Greens is nothing but a boyish tactics, in collaboration with foreign LTTEers, to pull the RED CARPET the Govt is standing on.
