The fear psychosis gripping the President is such even after getting answers from all on holding elections , he is undecided
SLFP (M) leader Mangala Samaraweera speaking on the occasion said, the President for the last several months has been asking from all and sundry whether to hold General or Presidential elections . While all have given answers , the President is still undecided . In the morning he thinks of holding Presidential elections ,but in the night he decides to hold general elections when he sees nightmares of losing. Now , he has only one section of people to ask from – the astrologers of India.
The conduct of the President clearly is an indication of how bankrupt he and his Govt. are . He and his Senior party members told, an announcement on elections will be made on the 2nd September. Then they said it will be on the day of the SLFP annual convention on 15th November. Now, November 15th has come and gone , yet President is undecided.
After getting down crowds using all the State owned buses and the Police , and even after distributing meal packets at the convention , he could not make his supporters to say , don’t hold Presidential elections and hold General elections ,when he asked them which elections they want first. All of them clamored that he should not carry on with his full term of six years . They asked him to ‘go’ by going for a Presidential election immediately after having completed four years. Enough is enough they stated impliedly. At least during the period of former President Chandrika , when she asked in similar circumstances whether people want a Presidential election before her time was over , the crowd responded by saying, even for lies ,they want her to go through her whole term and for her not to ‘go’, Mangala asserted.
The President can’t postpone the elections like he postponed the budget . The UNP challenges him to go for elections if he is confident of his popularity, Mangala noted.
