the education in sri lanka is based on Middle classe ethoes. And it has never been able to centralise the whole nation into a collective force..For example in the universities, the students are revolutionaries who speak for worker's rights and patriotism. But when they became the doctors, lawyers and high ranked officials they soon change their profile, entering into higher class..
then,
they forget the tear of poor,
the red banner
and even the national spirit.....

politicians are the same..Because the misserable human character of "sri lankan homo spaiens sapiens" yet have to evolve along the positive path...

official or so-called academic education is just a coat..
not a thing that can misure the human values or the actual inteligence

Today Politics Education is not enough ..
Look Ranil.He is well educated but he hasnt any managerial experience as well as no leadership , no decision marking power , no thinking power and he never identify people behaviors. So he cant ever win any election yet,.,'

are you living in sri lanka? because this is the only country in the world where you have free education up to and including university level, not to mention all students get free text books, free clothing and mahapola (for undergrads)

the truth is, you don't have to be rich at all to be educated.

what we need is an engineer for the ministry of power. not someone without even OLs

i think that some of you have misinpreted the core meaning of the idea expressed by bro Muzain..

if you carefully observe the social mechanisms , you can understand that the large number of POOR students (particaullary in rural areas) are abandoning their further education due to the economic problems ...( They have to run along the competitive education stream through the tution classes and stationaries university fees etc...).....

most of them , particularly the first son or daughter of the numerically large families have to sacrifice their advance education to sustain their parents and other familly members..

If you check the intake of armed forces and the field of female workers in garment section you can note that ,large majority of them are coming from the rural areas or from the urban poor classe..(nagarika nirdanayo)..As my field experiences, I can say that most of them had a good inteligence (of course better than the Ranil's urbanite kalu sudda generation composed with the so-called "ugath modain") .

yes,,, we have free education, but the what is the chance of getting its fruites.????.

the eruption of 1971 AND 1988 YOUTH uprisings were closely linked to this defect of our education system...The hate and dispress which boiled within the repressed social sectors has exploded with tragicall consequencies...

well, i'm not from a rich family but i got this grade 5 scholership and was able to go to a prestigious schools and now i'm reading for my degree. if i could do that there's no reason why others can't. all you need is a lilbit of brains,..and the rest is taken care of by the most generous govenment of the world GoSL (i'm not referring to a political party here. )

we need to have educated people in the parliment. after all they are taking decisions for 20 million people so at least they should understand what they are doing.

I, never said that the politicians are NOT to be educated.
I said before the education they must prove their humanist values.

And ,proposing the pathetic selections citerias like the "every politican must have degree..Mba,, Phd bla...bla...Blaaaaaa "will not resolve the problem....
( and yet our backward sri lankan socio-political system is not enough mature to handle the such complexities and those idiotic selection citerias will only marginalise the rural poor.....so again you can smell the burned flesh and enjoy the heat of hot tyres-especially prepared for the university students)
