A student protest at the Colombo university turned violent after they attacked the Marshals office Wednesday morning.

Two university marshals have been injured. A number of lecturers of the university who were trying to defuse the situation were also beaten up by angry students.

The students were protesting after reports that two marshals had allegedly abused a female student inside university premises, but the Cinnamon Gardens police say they not received any complaint the incident.

Other sources said that the Marshals had videoed a student couple and that had sparked off the protest.

Police were summoned to stop the attack while the riot squad was put on stand by around the area.

This is the open area between the New Library and the Arts Faculty. The picture looks pretty much Photoshoped.. cause the Girl is walking (clearly) and the guy is just standing there and it's pretty apparent that he's Put IN THERE.

Btw, DO you really think IF the Union get's to know this and if there's atleast an ounce of truth in this whole story...would these guards will be "alive" today ?

Hey! this whole story is fake according to many of my UOC friends and they say that this is truly the work of the bloody JVP factions in the faculty of arts. They say that Marshals usually prevent those buggers from carrying out their activities late at the University premises and chase them off. So most of the students regard this as one of their petty attempts to disgrace them (marshalls).Also according to university rules marshalls do have the right to discipline students and in some cases take thier ID's too. But that doesn't mean that the student will be expelled from the university automatically .Also if u visit the university on any day at anytime between 7am to 7pm u will see plenty of couples hanging around and if this was true surely then there must be more similar incidents and all of those who faced a similar incident must be cowardly keeping this as a secret even after they left the university with their degrees !! So from my point of view this is total crap and I hope no one would attempt this type of low stunts to gain petty objectives.
