The California University medical student who was receiving treatment for serious burn injuries at the National Hospital died on Wednesday, police said.
Indika Prasanna Padeniya of Dambulla had allegedly been assaulted and set on fire by two of his friends who had accompanied him to Ambana in Naula.
Prasanna had jumped into the Amban Ganga and escaped from the clutches of the friends-turned assialants and was later admitted to the National Hospital. Indika who was studying at the California University in America returned home to see his mother who was subjected to an acid attack by an unidentified group. Following his complaint to police later, two residents of Aluvihara, Matale were taken into custody and remanded.
