Mr M M Musthapa, Deputy Minister of Higher Education has handed over deposits as an Independent Candidate at the Presidential Elections. Meanwhile TNA MP Mr K Sivajilingam also deposited his money yesterday as a candidate.

Accordingly 17 candidates from recognized political parties and 4 independent candidates have deposited totaling 21 altogether by now.

A candidate from a recognized political party has to deposit Rs 50,000 while an independent candidate is required to deposit Rs 75.000 for the candidacy

Anura Jayasinghe paid the deposit on behalf of Sarath Kongahage as the Presidential candidate of the United National Alternative Front (UNAF) this afternoon says the Elections Commissioner.

The General Secretary of the United National Alternative Front is Ashoka Somaratne. The party has been allotted the ‘Gate’ symbol for the poll.
