Buddhism is the state religion and, as such, is protected and promoted. Although freedom for other religions is assured, there has been a steady erosion of that freedom with discrimination against minority religions in taxation, employment and education and, since 1988, a rising anti-Christian feeling. Christianity is perceived as foreign and a colonial imposition (sadly a partial truth under Portuguese and Dutch rule) and Evangelicals as using financial inducements to poor Buddhists for unethical conversions.

I DON'T SEE DA PROBLEM...NO ONE IS FORCING ANY ONE TO CHANGE THEIR RELIGION...THE DECISION IS UP TO YOU..IF YOU LOVE YOUR RELIGION ,IF YOU DON'T WANT TO CHANGE IT ...NO ONE CAN CHANGE...IT..

I'M A CATHOLIC AND I'M LIVING IN NEGOMBO..I KNOW FOR SURE HOW MANY PPL GO HOUSE TO HOUSE FOR SPREADING THEIR RELIGION. BUT WE DON'T CHANGE OUR RELIGION...

THE EASIEST TARGETS FOR THIS PPL ARE CATHOLICS.IF SOMEONE WANT CHANGE THEIR RELIGION FOR MONEY OR FOR OTHER REASON SO BE IT.

LAWS CANN'T STOP THIS ONLY PPL CAN..

NO ONE CANN'T CHANGE MY RELIGION...TOMMOROW I MIGHT STARVE TO DEATH BUT I DON'T CHANGE MY RELIGION FOR MY SERVIVAL...

    THAT'S MY POINT OF VIEW...

i dont understand how can someone change someone elses religion forcibly...

if someone changes his religion for money or other benefits actually he's religion is money not the one he practiced or he got converted into.

religion is something you adopt to yourself in order to make you a better person, thus ultimately making a better community. if someone practices a religion for other reasons than this he's hypocryt anyways. only wat'll happen is head count will go up and down but no good for the community.

one thing for sure the majority in this country has no religion (they might have one in the birth certificate thought) and practicing is the minority.

counting the heads and making fuss about it is just dumb...

you want to make all those numbers under your religion?...dont shout, show them hard cash next day these numbers will fall and yours will go up...:lol:

    Good growth in Christian Population.

    Normal growth in Buddhist population.

Hindu and Sikh growth have been reduced.

    So let's do the calculation...

If this is is a result of RELIGIOUS CONVERSIONS, then +s should be equal to -s.

    +s = 1.1 + 1.2 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 5.5

    -s = 0.6 + 0.3 = 0.9

So which means this data doesn't say anything about conversions...

This is just the result of Deaths and New Borns.

Some take these information to achieve religious extremism benefits, which is really pathetic... No one should talk about conversions. Coz as a Catholic, I believe if you change your religion for money or for any other benefit, then you don't deserve to be in that religion...

Even my girl is buddhist and I don't care it. We worship both Jesus and Buddha :) Every religion is asking to do good things. That's it. Religion is not importent. But religiousness is!

I'm a Catholic too. No body is forcing you to change their religion. Its only the person who him self fall for that. Buddha's teachings, Jesus's Teaching or Mohammed all say treat every one equaliy, Love one another, peace be with you, Don't commit sin and be a better person in life.

As X-pert say Religion is not impotent. But religiousness is!
