Mi 10 Pro sold out within a minute in China as coronavirus hits Xiaomi supply

Any freshly launched Xiaomi smartphones are notoriously hard to get thanks to the company’s flash sale tactics of launching devices with limited stock to create hype and to avoid extra inventory costs. This year, the coronavirus outbreak is adding to the difficulty of getting the latest Xiaomi flagship, according to the company.Xiaomi’s new Mi 10 Pro sold out in 55 seconds, company vice president Lu Weibing said on Weibo. The rapidly selling units racked up 200 million yuan (US$28 million) in revenue across all platforms, Lu said. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, though -- CEO Lei Jun reportedly told Chinese media after the Mi 10 launch event last week that devices will be in short supply due to the coronavirus outbreak.Xiaomi is among the many smartphone makers facing production disruption from the Covid-19 outbreak. The Mi 10 Pro will be on sale again on February 25 on ecommerce platforms and Xiaomi’s own online store. Another round of sales for the standard Mi 10 will start on February 21.
