I thought his first solo hit song was "Ben" which was released about 4 or 5 years before "Dont stop till you get enough"
"Ben" was a chart topper and AFAIK, its the first of his many number 1 hits.

    Ben

    no no
his 1st solo album was off the wall
    and it was in 1977
this song is the most popular of that alkbum
    Read the wiki again.
Before Off the Wall was released, MJ already had 4 other solo albums released.

"Ben" is a number-one hit song written by Don Black and Walter Scharf and recorded by the teenaged Michael Jackson for the Motown label in 1972. The song, the theme of a 1972 film of the same name (the sequel to the 1971 killer rat movie Willard), spent one week at the top of the U.S. pop chart.
Though Jackson had already become the youngest artist to ever record a number-one ("I Want You Back" with his brothers, The Jackson 5, in 1970), "Ben" made him the third-youngest solo artist, at fourteen, to score a number-one hit single.
The song became the first of 13 number-one pop hits for Jackson in the United States and his first number-one as a solo artist.

    Music & Me Released: April 13, 1973

I do give a shit but that doesnt mean I'm nuts over MJ as others here, who wern't even born when Thriller made a phenomenon in music or when Bad was released, make themselves to be.
