Albert Moses (Ranjeet Singh) passes away, at the age of 79 in London.
Albert (born 19 December 1937) was a Sri Lankan actor based in the United Kingdom. He had begun to act by the 1960s in India where he appeared in several films, then produced and directed his first.
From India, he moved to Africa where he undertook work on documentaries. From the early 1970s, in Britain, Albert played small parts in several television series before being cast as Ranjeet Singh, a Sikh from Punjab, in the ITV sitcom Mind Your Language (1977–79, 1986).
He was initially mistaken to be Pakistani when Mr Brown asked him to sit next to his 'fellow countryman' Ali Nadim in the first episode. He constantly argued with Ali, who is was a Pakistani Muslim. He had a good vocabulary but tended to mix up his general knowledge, and upon being corrected he always put his hands together and said 'a thousand apologies'.
Let's all extend our gratitude to him for entertaining us for so many years. A thousand thank you's, 'Ranjit'!
