Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai / Records / One-Day Internationals / India vs Sri Lanka

Team Span Mat Won Lost Tied Wining %

India 1987-2007 14 8 6 0 57.14
Sri Lanka 1987-2011 4 2 2 0 50.00 (Most recent two matches have won by Sri Lanka)

Conclusion
There are two pitches in Mumbai, one is high scoring one which is 300+ wicket and the other wicket is low scoring pitch which 260 is a good score but there is only one lesson we can learn from the pass that is most of the games have won those who bat first. India’s pass record is nothing to do with Saturday’s game but Sri Lanka’s winning formula is bat first and score 270+ (because 250 is not enough with current Indian batting line-up). If we lose the toss means India will bat first and if they score 240 then we have very little chance to win the match (we should restrict them below 230 but I don’t think we can do it with their strong batting line-up).

Hope Sanga will win the Saturdays toss and score 270 and put the pressure on Indian batsmen.

Murali will play even with discomfort - Bayliss
ESPNcricinfo staff

Sri Lanka coach Trevor Bayliss insists Muttiah Muralitharan will play in the World Cup final despite continued worries over his fitness. Muralitharan, who turns 39 next month, skipped practice on Thursday at the Wankhede stadium and has struggled with niggles through the course of the tournament, including a hamstring injury, a side strain, a troublesome knee and a groin issue.

There was speculation that he would be rested for the semi-final against New Zealand in a bid to allow him time to be fully fit for the final, but he played despite not being in the best physical condition. The final will be Muralitharan's last international game. "Chances are good that Murali will play," said Bayliss. "He completed 10 overs in the semi-final, and such is the character of the man that he will play even with discomfort."

The fitness of allrounder Angelo Mathews is also a worry for Sri Lanka. Veteran seamer Chaminda Vaas and offspinner Suraj Randiv are being flown in as cover for the injured pair, but Bayliss confirmed Sri Lanka had not applied to the ICC to have them included as official replacements. "We have asked for them just to be on the safe side, but Muralitharan and Mathews will be given as long as possible to prove their fitness," he said.

Bayliss was bullish about Sri Lanka's chances of winning a second World Cup title after their triumph in 1996, and suggested the pressure would be on India as the home team and tournament favourites. "We have played good cricket through the tournament and have done well against India in the past," he said. "The pressure will be on India since they are playing at home, but we are familiar with the conditions in Mumbai.

"If we concentrate on what we do the best then we can play some good cricket and if we play good cricket, we are going to be very difficult to beat. This match is 50-50 at this stage. Obviously, there will be a lot of pressure on India to perform at home. We have been able to do that in the last couple of games and come out with two good wins. The boys are quite confident about their chances in this World Cup.

"Yes, we have played India on a number of occasions and have beaten them before on a lot of occasions. [But] it [the final] is a difficult assignment. In the last three years, we have played 35 matches and this will be the 36th one. We have beaten them on a number of occasions. Our guys are confident we can play well and win."

Astrologers predict India's win at Wankhede

New Delhi: After the exciting win in the World Cup semifinals, the Indian cricket team is all set for Saturday's final against Sri Lanka and astrologers say that luck favours the hosts, who will lift the trophy they first won in 1983.

"M.S. Dhoni's stars are shining bright. He is in his 30th year and it is very lucky for him. Dhoni's 'lagna' (ascadent) is Virgo. Rahu, mercury are also in operation. Ketu 'dasa' entered on March 29. Ketu is yogakaraka or significator. Due to this he won against Pakistan. Same configuration will be there on April 2 too. His stars are better than Sangakara and it means India will win. Match will be well-fought by both the teams," astrologer Ajay Bhambhi told IANS.

He added: "Sri Lanka will win the toss and will make a total of more than 300 runs, which will not be a difficult task for the Indian team to chase."

Bejan Daruwalla, another renowned astrologer, said India have the capability to win the coveted trophy. "I am not god, but I feel India should win," he said.

Prem Kumar Sharma said: "We defeated the Australian team, which is three time world champion. They were strong a opponent as compared to Sri Lanka, so I feel India have the potential to win the world cup."

Sri Lanka and India made it to the final after beating New Zealand and Pakistan respectively in the semi-finals.

The final match will be played in Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

India and Sri Lanka have met seven times in World Cups. Sri Lanka lead the win-loss record 4-2, with one no-result.

Astro-mumerologist Anupam Kapil says that in terms of performance Sri Lanka will be stronger, "but the numerology suggests that as a nation India will win the cup."

"Middle order batsmen of Team India might not play very well and Sachin Tendulkar and Virendra Sehwag will have to pull it off. Lasith Malinga's bowling will be a threat. It's a must that India should play all the 50 overs...," he added.
