Thats the maximum you can go. Normally it will do around 280KB/s
But will fluctuate from 100~360 since its the nature of 3.5G
Other than that if you have lot of people using Airtel 3.5G in your area you will get slow speeds.

Anyway in general its very good value for your money. But not sure they can continue like that.

I have noticed Airtel doesn't have HSPA or HSUPA. So stuck at 384kbps on uploads even with a supporting modem. Anyone got HSUPA from Airtel? I can see only HSDPA from Airtel.

i downloaded 10 GB + within couple of hours using internet download manager. avg speed is 330kb while maximum is at 400 Kb/sec

of course.. worth every penny for the time being

airtel got their own internet backbone!
Its not only depending on main backbone to the internet. If you have lot of Airtel 3G users in your area then you will get slow speeds.

get a phone which supports 3G and search networks using that. So it will show available 3G networks in your area. You don't need an Airtel sim for that.

still it is the best value for money package in sri lanka compared to other competitors. definitely it gives more bandwidth for the money. even if you get 512k instead of 3.2mbps it's still worth it. usually isp's set up new towers for the increasing customer base. when you take slt as an example their adsl is kind of oversold. that's not a good business ethic.

people are freaked out regarding future bandwidth concerns.. i was using airtel when i was in india where they've a massive customer base & cannot be considered as a new isp.. speed wise it's extremely awesome even after so many years. so i believe that it will be the same here in sri lanka.

I am talking about the technical limitations bro. ADSL is a wired line technology and you can increase the quality of bandwidth only from main backbone. But wireless technologies have its limitations.

Its same for all mobitel, Dialog and airtel. Mobitel giving good speeds coz its expensive so low number of users and low bandwidth usage due to cap.

But as Airtel gives unlimited bandwidth connections to cheap prices. Userbase per tower will grow massively. That has happened in some areas of US when lot of ppl bought iphone 3Gs.

India still don't have 3.5G from Airtel. They only have EDGE on GSM.(2G) And you talking about their normal broadband plans.

And check the speeds and prices too. Indian broadband prices are very high compared to Airtel in srilanka.

i was using edge while in india.. still i was able to youtube without any probz. bandwidth was roughly 20-25 Kb/sec

compared to united states sri lanka is a small country.. so adding up additional towers won't be an issue at all.. i do agree that we should think about the bad points too.. but let's try to think positively. i believe that airtel will retain their speed in future by doing necessary upgrades to their infrastructure. in case even if it drops it will be faster than slt adsl

ok lets hope like that. :D
If they can do this long term and retain the quality, then most probably this will be one of the best HSPA deals on the planet.

Anyway i still can't see HSPA or HSUPA from Airtel.

Someone told me that some teleco CEO has said SL has the best bang for the buck mobile packages in the world when it comes to GSM.

See what competition can do.. :P
