Ok guys, my PC is being a total bug. I run a small server at home on my PC but the thing is the power bill is becoming too much. I have maintained around 97% uptime running the server 24X7 for over 2 years.

My PC is

Intel Celeron D 2.8GHz
Intel D915GEV Motherboard
2GB Dual Channel RAM DDR2 533
128MB Nvidia Geforce 6200
2 X 80GB Hitachi SATA
1 X 160GB Hitachi SATA

2 X Rear Exhaust Fans
2 X Font Intake Fans
PowerCenter UPS
500W AGC PSU

But the problem is I think its using too much power. I mean our power usage is ALWAYS over 330 KWh and yes I checked the house wiring for leaks, shorts etc. Also went so far to do a meter check!

Well now today I removed my Nvidia Video Card, one of the exhaust fans... I do hope it will lower my power consumption.

I also looked at the TDP values for processors. My Celeron processor has a TDP of 84W!!!! so now I have also decided to go for a Celeron 430 1.8GHz processor which only has a TDP of 35W. Is this a good idea?

Btw, if I drop the power bill below 300 units I'll save A LOT. for 330 units our power bill is like Rs. 7100/-

:(:(:(

PS. The reason I have so many fans is because the processor runs VERY HOT. 57C idle, 65C full load. Its virtually enough to heat my entire 15ftx15ft room.

Seriously 330 units a month = 11 units a day
11 units a day = 450W of power is always being used. We don't use electricity to cook. So I feel I'm responsible for like 350W's of that!!

My power Estimate

CPU = 84W
Chipset = 15W
HDD's 8WX3 = 24W
Video Card = 12W
UPS = 25W
PC Fans = 10W
Ceiling Fan (Keeping Room Cool 24X7) = 75W
Florescent (4ft 20X7) = 36W
Monitor (17" LCD Samsung) = 35W

302W total :-/

    switch off that ceiling fan and open up the windows.
    Also take out that VGA card and use onboard or a low power card. Since this is a server , you dont need high end VGA.

    I can't open windows, i hate the light because it will remind me that its night/day. then I will feel sleepy! otherwise my mind won't know what time it is when I'm programming so I can't do it non-stop until my mind stops processing commands (Ends sleeping on the keyboard)

    Is that an internal fan (in side the casing) or an external exhaust fan ?

    that's just plain crazy. Either be a day time worker or a night time worker. The way you're going, you'll burn out pretty soon.

    Give me some more info, it's hard to give suggestions without knowing the whole story.

    What's the server for (web/mail server? file server? computational server?)
    How much processing power do you really need? (go for the lowest)
    How much Storage do you need? (can you get rid of those hard drives and install a single one).
    Also you try taking off two of the fans, (just have one for the hdd, and one for CPU) hoping the PSU already has one. Underclock the CPU if your motherboard allows it, and also enable the hard drive's to sleep when they are idle. This will shave off a few, but won't make a huge difference.

    Where I'm now
    There is nothing to look after I saw the CPU.Its a Pentium D.For gods sake,thats two 90nm Pentium netburst cores with a bridge!!!!Get a celeron Dual core E 1400 and put it in.You might need to update the BIOS.It will run perfectly with much performance and much less heat+much less power bill.
