Navy destroys LTTE Hide-out in Peraru Jungles and recovers a large Cache of Arms and Ammunitions
Naval troops conducting a special operation destroyed an LTTE hide-out located in the Peraru Jungles and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunitions yesterday (24th January 2008) around 1.00 p.m.
The LTTE hide-out, located 6 kilometers west of Nilaweli had been frequented by the LTTE cadres hiding in the jungle. Around 50 LTTE cadres who fled Thoppigala are suspected to be trapped in the Peraru Jungles.
The cache of arms and ammunitions stored in the camps consists of two T 56 weapons, two SMG magazines, 63 Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), 64 RPG expelling charges and 6000 ammunitions of 7.62 mm type, packed in eight boxes, each box containing 750 rounds.
