Interest is making money using money straight away. Muslims use money for business, and get more interest but they call it profit. The only difference is that Muslim's method of getting interest involves consumer goods and services.

But if you look at the abominable business practices of Muslims (and Sinhalese too) sometimes it's better to get interest rather than profit.

    P.S.
NDB Bank revised the scale of the fraud from an initial estimate of around Rs.380 million to approximately Rs.13.2 billion

i dont have a deep understand in their business model. all i see is they are very keen in saving and reinvesting rather than spending money on liabilities. compared to Sinhalese. and i find their Islamic loan process is somewhat better than interest based scheme offered to sinhalese.
    maybe im wrong/

If Someone interested, here is brief introduction or explanation.

Key Stages in the Islamic Loan Process:
    • Application & Evaluation: You apply,, and the bank assesses your financial profile and the asset's value.
    • Asset Purchase: The bank purchases the required asset from the seller, taking on ownership risk.
    • Contract Execution: You and the bank enter a Sharia-compliant contract (e.g., Murabaha for personal/business finance or Diminishing Musharaka for home financing).
    • Repayment/Ownership Transfer: You pay installments to the bank, which includes a pre-agreed profit margin. In co-ownership, your payments increase your ownership percentage until the bank's share is bought out completely.

    Common Islamic Financing Structures:
    • Murabaha (Cost-Plus): Used for purchasing assets. The bank discloses the cost and profit margin, reselling the item to you with a markup.
    • Diminishing Musharaka (Co-Ownership): Commonly used for home financing. The bank and client jointly purchase property, and the client pays rent on the bank's share while buying it out gradually.
    • Ijara: A leasing agreement where the bank buys the asset and leases it to you, with ownership transferring at the end
