I need to buy a new UPS.

I don't want to spend a lot of money on it either. Max of about Rs.5000.

I need options. It would be better if people talk from experience.

I need like 15 minutes of online time btw. Having a USB connection to the PC for monitoring purposes (not the serial connection) will be great value addition, but not really necessary.

What about the online time? More than 10 minutes? And your PC?

im using a powertree 600VA it was about 5000 those days...about 5 years ago still no prob it had a serial cable, but i only used it for a week :P its no use actually my PC(PSU says 450W monitor is CRT 17";( dont know the wattage ) runs for about 15minutes with the normal beep-beep-beep then its runs about 5minutes on beeep :P the monitor is CRT so if you're using a LCD one you'll have more runtime...

I was so mad about the state of the electricity in our area, and the fact that my current UPS couldn't keep the PC running for more than 30 seconds, I went to Unity to get the Mercury Smart 800 which I heard is just Rs. 5000. Alas, it wasn't available. It's either 600VA ones or then 1200VA ones. Nothing in between. I wasn't sure 600VA would be enough. I mean, most of them just had 360W peak wattage. The PowerTree one had 390W but still not enough imo. I measured the power consumption of the PC at load - VERY HIGH LOAD (LinX and Furmark running, and overclocked as well) - and it counted about 370W. All those 600VA UPSs were peaking out. No good! That's why I wanted the 800VA one. They can handle around 480W peak power.

So no 800VA ones at Unity, and 600VA being too small, I had to go for a 1200VA.

So bought this bulldozer (lol) for Rs. 8500. PowerTree 1250VA/750W S1250P. More than I wanted to spend on a dumb UPS, but it was time to spend money instead of killing my heart cells!!! Sri Lanka never develops!!!

Just a piece of advice - please ensure that it is (whichever brand) Sine Wave!
