Nemesis is a Sri Lankan rock band formed in mid 2005, whose genre has evolved over the years into a mix of Blues, Alternative rock/metal and Eastern music. The bands musical influences range from Metallica, Aerosmith, Pantera, Alterbridge, Shinedown, Zakk Wylde, and Black Sabbath, to Jason Becker, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. Comprised of four immensely talented musicians, Nemesis is a band dedicated to its goal of having its unique brand of music heard by music lovers the world over.
The brainchild of lead guitarist Tharindu Mathew, the band started its musical career performing at gigs hosted by Sri Lanka’s main rock music labels, alongside the giants of Sri Lankan rock music. Successful as its entry into the Sri Lankan music scene was, the band suffered many setbacks due to the sporadic departures of three of its original members. As daunting as the task of keeping the band active was; the unwavering determination and commitment of Tharindu Mathew saw Nemesis re-emerge stronger than ever with its current lineup consisting of Bassist Loshaarn Bastian, vocalist Mihindu Ariyarathna and drummer Sithija Dilshan.
In November last year the Band took part in ‘TNL Onstage 2008’ Sri Lanka’s leading musical talent search, and emerged as winners in the band category; announcing the bands return as one of the most powerful acts in the Sri Lankan music scene. The resounding cheers of the audience as Nemesis was announced the winners at the finals of ‘Onstage’ attest to the devoted fan base that Nemesis has gathered over the years.
At present the band is focused on increasing its fan base and is also working hard on its debut full length album ‘The Untold Story’ that is due to be released later this year.
Nemesis just recently organized their own headlining show "Chapter One" which was held on the 5th of April at the Keg. They also released an English original and a few cover tracks (available at http://www.myspace.com/nemesistheband). After building up a large following in the English music market in Sri Lanka, Nemesis is now focusing on bringing the rock music genre to the Sinhalese listener. Chakithaya is the first of these efforts.
