Brigadier (rtd) W.G.K.Udaya Aryaratne RSP,USP,C.Eng(I),AMIE has been appointed as Acting Principal of Trinity College, Kandy with effect from November 1, 2008, with a view to his eventual appointment as Principal, the Board of Governors of the college announced today.
The appointment has been approved by the Ministry of Education in terms of the Assisted Schools and Unaided Schools Regulations 1983.
Brigadier Aryaratne is an old boy of Trinity (1959-1967) and served as an officer in the Sri Lanka Army from 1973 to 1988 winning several awards and retiring as a Brigadier. Since then he has worked as a Group Human Resources Manager in the private sector.
He has obtained a Master of Technology degree in Civil Engineering and is an Associate member of Chartered Engineers (Civil) – Institute of Engineers (India). He also holds a Diploma in Human Resource Management. He has had 7 years of teaching experience at the School of Military Engineering, the Sir John Kotelawela Defence Academy, the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa and the Advanced Infantry Training School, Maduru Oya.
“The Board is confident that Brigadier Aryaratne will steer the school through the difficult period caused by the premature departure of Mr.Rod Gilbert and ensure the stable development of Trinity in the best interests of the students and in accordance with the time-honoured traditions of the school”, the Board of Governors said in a statement.
