The 2009 Mazda6 is an all-new midsize sedan from Mazda that was designed, engineered, developed, and will be manufactured completely on U.S. soil. While the Japanese and
European markets have been enjoying the new 6 (Atenza) since late last year, the North American market finally gets to bask in the sleek new bodywork, along with a bigger
engine under the hood. Follow the jump to see if the latest product from team "Zoom-Zoom" can compete head-to-head with the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Altima.

The interior of the Mazda6 is tastefully appointed, and very welcoming, as well. Contrasting colors and textures nicely mix, and unique glossy "patterned" trim
it's not fake wood, nor is it fake carbon fiber) looks interesting and classy without appearing gaudy. Like the previous model, the primary gauges are backlit
with an orange glow over black dials. Bright brushed metallic finishes accent the dials, steering wheel, and console. We did find ourselves having to reach forward
to touch the controls on the sat-nav as the unit sits further from the driver than anything else. The screen is mounted at an angle, which could make viewing difficult
in direct sunlight. Polarized sunglass owners will note that their lenses block out some of the gauges. As before, the HVAC dual-temp and primary radio controls are round
dials and the overall cabin ergonomics are good, although you will still need to move your head around a bit to see a few of the switches hidden behind the left side of the
steering wheel.

FERRARI TO DEBUT TWO NEW VERSIONS OF THE 599 GTB FIORANO IN GENEVA
UjIaPA430451-02.jpg

The 79th Geneva International Motor Show provides the venue for Ferrari to announce two new versions of its cars: the arrival of the sporty, dynamic Handling GT Evoluzione (HGTE) Package for the 599 GTB Fiorano and the world debut of the 599XX which is a technological laboratory aimed at a select group of clients. The latter new car incorporates the most advanced technologies resulting from Ferrari's road-going and F1 research. Many of the technological solutions it carries are being used for the first time and have been developed exclusively for this special car.

The two new arrivals will be introduced to the international media by Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo on the opening day of the Show, March 3rd, at 10 am.

In addition to the 599 GTB Fiorano equipped with the Handling GTE package and finished in a new three-layer metallic Rosso, and the 599XX in a colour matching the F2008, Ferrari clients and enthusiasts will also be able to admire this single-seater that recently won the Prancing Horse its 16th Constructors' World title. On the stand there will also be the full range of Ferrari road cars: the Scuderia Spider 16M in a Grigio Titanio livery, the 430 Scuderia in Rosso Corsa and two Grand Tourer models, the Ferrari California in Nero Metallizzato with a Sabbia interior and the flagship 612 Scaglietti. The latter will be displayed in the Atelier, a dedicated area where owners can get a taste of the virtually endless personalisation options on offer to them.

Pagani Zonda R
xgX7sS874997-02.jpg
60MCGf312470-02.jpg

With fewer than 10 percent of its components shared with the other Zonda models, the 750 bhp AMG V12 powered Zonda R is the ultimate non-homologated high performance track machine built by the Modense supercar maker without compromise. The arrival of the Zonda R has been long awaited: Pagani first revealed such a project was in the pipeline almost exactly two years ago in Geneva where a scale model was also shown to visitors. With a successor to the decade old Zonda model due, the Zonda R version will round out the model range's life with the most extreme version yet.
vwPBoL197202-02.jpg
E81jBO774206-02.jpg

Zonda R

While we certainly cannot say the Zonda F lacks performance figures, driving around the Nürburgring in 7:27:82 and achieving lateral G forces of almost 1.5 G, it is however a road car, easy to drive, intuitive and setting the benchmark for comfort, safety and lightweight.

Paired with a quality finish and the attention to detail this made the Zonda F one of the most desirable supercars resulting in the 25 Coupé models being sold out in record time. This did not seem to fulfil the requirements of the company's most demanding customers, who adore the weekend drive on a racetrack.

The spark was set by an Italo-American customer, enthusiast and already proud owner of 3 Zondas. He describes the project this way: “The thought has been on my mind for quite some time, but I am not interested in racing”.

The Zonda R is born with full liberty. The target: the ultimate performance at the racetrack without any implications of rules, except for safety, where no compromise is allowed. In September 2006 the first drawings were ready, but it was crucial to have the support of Mercedes-AMG for a high revving engine with a power output of 750hp, dry sump, light and with a low centre of gravity. The basis was the self supporting engine of the mighty CLK GTR, which has dominated the GT championships. Even at constant racing pace the engine would have to cover over 5,000 km before servicing.

The Zonda R is a car designed from scratch, with only 10% of the Zonda F components carried over. The suspension forged in Avional, a new Pagani six speed transversal sequential gearbox, carbon fibre monocoque, aeronautical four pump fuel tank are only part of the equation. The wheelbase has grown by 47mm, the overall length by 394mm and the track is increased by 50mm. The bodywork and aerodynamics have been studied to offer maximum downforce.

Even though built for the track, the project would not have received kick off, if the quality and finish of the car and its details was not up to the level of the Pagani road cars. One of the first cars to be delivered however will be kept in a living room, designed by Pagani and built with the same materials as the Zonda F, beautifully textured carbon fibre, avional, titanium, inconel and other state of the art materials. Additionally it features a bespoke HiFi System that will allow the customer to listen to the sound of this car at Le Mans and the Nürburgring.

This Zonda is purpose made for track use, without restrictions of any competition rules or homologation, with the only exclusion of the passengers’ integrity, where no compromise is tolerated according to our philosophy and state-of-the-art safety measures are featured.

A New Heart

The engine is built by the racing specialists at Mercedes AMG, where the championship winning DTM cars are born. From it’s engine the Zonda R borrows the basic architecture including an ingenious dry sump allowing a low centre of gravity. This self-supporting engine with 750 hp at 8000 rpm and 710 Nm of torque carries a lightweight carbon fibre high performance intake system, a racing multiple disc sintered clutch and Formula 1 style exhaust system, hydroformed in Inconel 625 and ceramic coated for optimal heat dissipation. The power unit combined with a 6 speed transversal manual sequential synchronised gearbox is designed to satisfy the most ambitious drivers.

gkQJol877559-02.jpg

The Chassis

The central carbon chassis incorporates a roll cage and a rubber racing fuel tank with 4 fuel pumps and quick refuel filler like on GT race cars. The wheelbase has been increased by 47mm to offer the best stability. The front and rear subframes are brand-new, built to accommodate a new suspension geometry, produced in avional. The magnesium forged rims with central wheel nut and a quick pneumatic lifting system allows fast and effortless changes of the slick tyres.

5u3KFc250956-02.jpg

Bodywork and aerodynamics

The new bodywork has been honed to offer elevated downforce even in low speed corners. The longer front bonnet with flaps, closed underbody and the rear overhang with the adjustable rear wing and race derived diffuser translate into aerodynamic efficiency. The car displays and logs information about the amount of downforce that the car is generating at each moment. Combined with the adjustable wings the driver can easily find the best setup for each track.

Workstation

The interior is designed to accommodate the driver and passenger in bespoke seats, built to offer the best support, when the G-forces from the vehicle dynamics come into question. The Digitek instrumentation provides the essential information and a sophisticated telemetry allows through a variety of sensors to monitor every single component of the car.

Maserati is to introduce a GT S version of the new Quattroporte sedan which features an extra 10 bhp power amongst detail technical and cosmetic revisions; the new Quattroporte Sport GT S is set to receive its world debut at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the show appearance coming on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Maserati first Indianapolis 500 win.

The new Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S claims to sets yet another milestone in terms of sportiness in the high performance luxury sedan segment of the automotive market. Conceived and developed by Maserati as "a real driving machine in the guise of a luxury sedan", the Quattroporte Sport GT S is the ultimate expression of Maserati's sportiness in the Quattroporte range.

This special new version comes hot on the heels of the arrival of the facelifted Quattroporte, including the range-topping Quattroporte which debuted in the showrooms this summer five years after the super luxury four door sedan premiered at the Frankfurt IAA in 2003.

The technical changes to the new Quattroporte Sport GT S in respect to the Quattroporte S concern four areas. First the 4.7 litre V8 engine has been remapped, with power increased from the standard model's 430 bhp to 440 bhp. The gearshift management software on the ZF sourced automatic gearbox has been revised with new features designed to increase driving enjoyment. the front and rear suspension system now features single-rate dampers, stiffer springs and lower ride height while a new sports exhaust system is controlled by pneumatic valves for a deep, throaty and captivating sound.

The sportier and more aggressive look is evident also in virtue of the interior's and exterior's stylistic choices. The Quattroporte GT S has an eye-catching new black grille with concave vertical fins featuring the Trident logo with red accents, typical of the sportier versions of Maserati models; the new headlights now have a metallic titanium finish; the side and rear "shadow line", includes black finishing around the doors, body-coloured door handles and black twin oval exhaust pipes. Inside the Quattroporte GT S new M-design seats feature perforated Alcantara and leather upholstery while the standard trim is in Titantex, a "titanium coloured" composite material.
