Sony Ericsson on Tuesday announced eight new phones, including two Walkman music phones. At just 9.4mm thick, the W880 is the slimmest Sony Ericsson phone yet. It combines the full Walkman phone experience with a device that fits into a pocket.

The W610 Walkman phone has a 2-megapixel camera with auto focus, video recording and playback. It has a horizontal camera menu, so users can hold it as they would a regular camera when taking a picture. The device also sports a picture-blogging facility for uploading photos directly to a blog.

Sony Ericsson also added four low-cost phones, joining bigger rivals in the fight for customers in emerging markets. Among the new, cheaper phones is the K200, which has a slide show view and will store up to 40 images. It will be available from Q2 2007 in selected markets in either metallic black or light champagne.

Sony Ericsson's head of Nordic operations, Johan Mathson, said he expected the four basic phones to sell somewhere between 50 and 100 euros ($65 and $130), well above models priced as low as $30 and $40 from Motorola.

Another low-cost phone, the J110, is a "candy bar-style phone with large, legible keys and easy navigation. A central navigation key with clear icons gives one-click access to commonly used features such as the text message menu, ring volume and alarm clock.

Spare earbuds of different sizes come in the box for the HPM-75 portable stereo headset and can be swapped for a fit that blocks external noise and seals the bass punch in.
