Europe’s first privately owned high-speed rail operator has presented its Italo AGV train, built by Alstom, which will compete early next year (BY 2012 MARCH )against the Italian state-owned network.
Luca di Montezemolo, chairman of Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (NTV), said the consortium had met “a lot of resistance to get here” – implying obstruction from state-run Ferrovie Dello Stato – “but now Italy is entering an era of competition and choice”.
