Post War Politics

There were newspaper reports published about Mr. Fonseka entering into politics during post-war, in Augusat 2009. One of the article explains it as follows, "General Fonseka launches political campaign - I will make a supreme sacrifice to defend my land against the politicos who ever they may be joining hands with India. Now we have a daunting task to protect our motherland from India" [8]. Gen. Fonseka entering politics was a debate even during the war against LTTE[9].

It is based on the conspiracy emerged, against Mr. Fonseka, weeks before in the Sri Lankan political arena [10]. Changes of Staff in the militery rank during post war, was political intentions [11] many predicted.
Sri Lanka is heading towards to face a general and presidential election in 2010, there were campaigns, which supports Mr. Fonseka as the next President of Sri Lanka [12]. Most of these campaigns basically support his ideology [13] (Sri Lanka as a Unitary State and so on). Even tough Mr. Fonseka denied entering politics, critics’ say that he has to play defensive as for the current political atmosphere and time would be a factor on his political debut.

State television bans songs featuring Gen Fonseka

We, “People's Fonseka2010” are distressed to note that powerful persons have ordered state owned Rupavahini and ITN television channels have been forbidden from broadcasting patriotic songs featuring General Sarath Fonseka.
Over the past two months,
there have been no songs showing the Great General.
Instead politicians and retired colonels are showed in loops.
We took measures to find out about the hidden agenda.
Several employees of both stations have told us,
on condition of anonymity,
that “higher” officials have ordered them
to stop broadcasting clips showing General Fonseka.
Even interviews with the great General have been forbidden.
Song by Chandrika Siriwardena have also been banned,
because they often praise General Fonseka's character.
It is understood that political elements are seeking
to character assassinate the General in order to reduce his popularity.
