these charts are from
www.techpowerup.com ... it one of the most ubiased sites on the web ....and it has the largest test bed of games among the tech sites .... so the performance summary is more accurate ... and BTW most of the reviews I have seen on other sites shows similar charts ....

...
And i agree that the GTX 295 performs better than 4870X2 in
most games ... but in
some games the 4870X2 come ahead of GTX 295
just to enlighten you on something ... people buy VGA cards not GPUs ... so no point arguing 5970 is a dual -gpu card .. and anyway the 5970 consumes less power. runs cooler... and performs better than a GTX480 ...
nVdias GTX 480 is a failure ....

... every tech forum in the web are speaking of it .... and about dual-gpu nvidia cards ... they wont be able to make one with GF100 chips ... cos the power draw is too much (300W max to meet PCI-e standard) ...
they either will have to
drop the shader count and also drop the clock speeds of the GTX470 and make a dual-gpu card or will have 2 higher clocked GTS450 on one board...

... therefore the dual-gpu fermi will perform similar to 5970 or slightly better and consume much more power... and BTW a higher clocked 5970 (4GB) is on the making (by ASUS, Sapphire, XFX)...

so its hard to say whether ATI could be dethroned in performance.
I'm no fanboy ... i have owned both cards (currently have a 7600GT & HD4850) ... but everyone gotta accept that ATi wins this round and FERMI just dont cut it when considering price/performance/heat/noise/overclocking ... you cant expect a 95C running card to last a long time ... (and definitely not in countries like sri lanka where the ambient temps are soo high ... you'll definitely fry the card one day

)
may be when the 28nm silicon manufacturing process is ready they can do a die shrink next year and win the next round ...

... but u gotta accept its been ATi all da way sine 2009 ...
And remember this sort of competition is very important so that we the consumers can enjoy great performance at a good price ...
