The main opposition party of Sri Lanka, United National Party (UNP) is to hold a protest rally at national level in Colombo on Tuesday (29) on several important issues.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake says that the protest will be based on three main issues.
The party plans to hold the protest to call for the release of former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, to safeguard the Sinhala businessmen and to rally against the "anti-people" 2012 budget.
The protest is to be held at Hyde Park on Tuesday at 2 pm and other political parties, civil society organizations and trade unions have been invited to join the protest rally.
Attanayake said that Sarath Fonseka's wife, Anoma Fonseka has accepted the invitation to attend the protest.
He added that invitations have also been forwarded to the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and Mano Ganeshan's Democratic People's Front to join the protest.
According to Attanayake, the UNP has already decided to vote against the 2012 budget in parliament.
