PATRIOTISM OR NATIONALISM!!!!

• First of all I Need to clarify that I am a Buddhist born to a Sinhala Family, so that certain individuals would not disregard this thread as a a plea of a minority or an attempt to take over Sri Lanka.

I am an old member who was here from the beginning, therefore I have seen what was happening in this forum for a while and I am ashamed to say that ElaKiri which was the first and the largest forum for the Sri Lankan Community has been a breeding ground for 'Nationalism not Patriotism'

It is important that we know the definition of the words. Patriotism means your affection to your country and nationalism means not the affection but the extreme end of it. Why has this happened. Religion is a belief each of us share. Individuals have a right to believe in their own philosophies and anyone else has no right to interfere or insult ones belief.

The reason for the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka was Nationalism. True it is the fault of both Nationalities and it is futile to blame a specific sector because that would make a nationalist out of me. What I see everyday at EK during the last few months have disgusted me. Not just me but most of the 'OLD' members do not even visit the site anymore. In our own words 'Neththatama Charter wela'.

We may be Sinhala ,Muslim, Tamil or anything but when it comes down to the basics we are Sri Lankans. Most members in the forums conduct actions which they think is patriotism but it is plain nationalism. My nationality is better than yours. 'Elakiri' is a slang used throughout the country without regards to the nationality or the religion. We were ones a small but a happy family. Neon, Gazaly,Fazaal, Sujakshan.... we never had arguments about our nationality or our religion now we're a bigger much diversified family but are we really happy???

Please think about it. before you post something think if I am hurting someones belief or am I being a Nationalist?

And this is a nice thread. with very important information. thanks. the reason for the war to start and the reason for the war to exist is the nationalism. a person gone to an extreme end will lack all other things. if everyone can live with proper understanding, open minded, we will be able to prevent problems and live together peacefully.

how can you say that he speaks like ranil?? ranil is a person always searching for an opportunity say something against the government. and almost all he does is useless things. no matter what he speaks is right or wrong, what matters to him is if what he speaks is causing the government to corrupt. I know that all politicians does the same, But ranil and his followers always do useless things and they are very popular in that field.

And the reason that people call him "pon" could be that he is not capable of doing "things".. always failing..

and I have never talked about him in this forum. I always did is pointing out wrong things you do.

when the whole Elakiriyans are celebrating the victory of the war, you will jump in and start yelling that "government is telling lies, they dont have captured north, instead the LTTE just captured colombo.. and all forces are killing themselves in the front line just to support gov and blah blah blah..."

is that the propper way of telling things?? you can have anything in your mind. but when you speak, there is a proper way of doing that.

I am patriotic to Sri lanka because I want sri lanka, the singhala nation becoming like majour countries like the Uk, not as in wealth but also in culture as well, sri lanka consisting of many religions because mother lanka has been made of these sub duos wihth sinhala majority as in hence of the 2500 history of making!

lets Boycott terrorism! not relgion, lets make Mother lanka more beautiful by wanting to devide our beautiful country for there own respect and governence, maybe politics is just another way of hhe powing trust, where they will feed you info, and turn you against any race religon or fact just for there governence!
