The Ministry of Arts and culture is seeking to introduce new laws regarding the dress code for young girls in public places. That is to stop them from wearing short frocks.

Minister TB Ekanayake had given instructions to the Arts Council of the Ministry headed by Dr. Carlo Fonseka to take measures in this direction.

The Minister had told that he had taken these steps following complaints made to him against young girls wearing short frocks and skirts. These complaints have been made by those individuals and Organizations who are concerned about the cultural and religious sides of decent behavior.

The Minister did not disclose who had made these complaints and added that, this matter has still not been presented to the Cabinet.

As the Council had still not taken up this matter , there had not arisen the need to highlight in the media, the Council Secretary Kamal Dissanayake noted.

Earlier the media reported that the Govt. was considering the ban on betel chewing, traveling without footwear, wearing sarong without underwear.
The party represented by ‘patriotic’ Ministers with the Govt. have however pointed out to the Govt. all these are unnecessary bans at a time when attempts are being made to project the country as a tourist Isle and attract tourists.

It is noteworthy that the religious extremists of Afghanistan had earlier introduced such laws. The Maoists of China also had brought in such laws.

This guy must be a mental case and should be committed to see a psychiatrist. The President seems to be giving Ministerial posts to some queer specimens.
