PEO (Personalised Entertainment Option) TV has plans to add banking and shopping facilities into the current list of interactive services for its cable channel subscribers. The move is set to materialise in another six months says PEO TV’s Chief Executive Officer Thusha Weerasooriya.
‘We have approached the banks with our idea and they have responded very positively. Hopefully, if our intentions go to plan we would set a new standard for television culture in Sri Lanka,’ he said. He said that the new facilities would enable TV subscribers to check their bank and credit card balances on their TV screens and would allow them to transfer money in to other accounts with a touch of a button.
‘We are planning to set up a payment gateway on TV so that payments for day to day transactions could be made and this would be far more secure than payments presently made on the internet,’ he said. He added that if there could be e-banking, e-shopping and e-learning for activities based on internet there was no question of having the E (Electronic) replaced with a T (Television).
PEO TV provides Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) to home television sets and is exclusive to SLT phone line subscribers. IPTV provides television content over a data network to multiple users. PEO TV is a subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom, Sri Lanka’s largest fixed line provider.
