Isotopes are variants of a particular chemical element which differ in neutron number. All isotopes of a given element have the same number of protons in each atom.

Those isotopes half life span is very short. I'm not a bloody chemist, but according to them, we only have 60-120 minutes to create one and inject. And that radioactive isotope only manufacture under nuclear tech plant which we don't have.

no probs tax payers will bear that costs

Ya. That's not an issue. Sri Lankan politicians wasting more money than that. These patients must treat somehow. Main problem is even though isotope air freight it life span (decay) almost get in to its half. So scan accuracy is highly doubtful.

Usually they are made in an in-house cyclotron. Also there are different types of tracers - depending on what you are trying to diagnose.
Also there are FDG and Rb82, Zr89 based tracers that do have a longer half life. Surely the doctors will have some plan on how to source the tracers. Otherwise how can you the scanner!
Also how do they do PET scans in private hospitals?
