For distributors

We have learned that Phenom II will be available in last days of 2008, but only to distributors. A few sources have confirmed that distributors will start selling Phenom II 940 at 3GHz and Phenom II 920 at 2.8GHz in week 53, the one that starts on the 29th of December.

The real launch of Phenom II's is CES and you should be able to buy one in second week of 2009 and these two to launch do support AM2+ motherboard. Roughly a month after this launch or just a tad longer, AMD will launch Phenom II 9x5 versions that will support DDR3 memory and AM3 motherboard and the beauty of these CPUs is that they will also work in AM2+ motherboards.

Phenom II will finally sound the bell of AMD’s recovery as this CPU will be priced at correct price, will overclock well and the infrastructure is much cheaper than Nehalem. The great thing about Phenom II is that it works in AMD 780FX / GX motherboards and it will have a cheap upgrade path, while with Nehalem, Core i7 you have to buy new memory, motherboard, CPU and cooler to make it work.

no! AMD won't be aiming at the crown :)
They will be trying to beat the yorkfields in this case:dull:
No one can be sure of the performance until a proper review is released ;)

Fudzilla >> "We've learned that at the same clock speed Phenom II should be as fast of a bit faster than 45nm Yorkfield-based Core 2 Quad. This will, of course, depend on the benchmark you run and all benchmarks optimized for SSE 4 might still go in Intel’s favor."

Phenom II will Beat Yorkfields.... Ci7 beat after OC....
Anyway Phenom II will drop Intels damn Pricez neh...??
    Its gud fo all;)

Phenom II shows up in the HardForums. First thread with pics and specs and a second thread with benchmarks. Seems they were for sale as well. Two sites had Phenom II 940 and 920 processors for sale, but they have been pulled. For the record, I would not expect to see any official Phenom II information from Hard|OCP until the second week of January, as AMD seems to be making us hold our information till it is worthless as far as any surprises. But I will say this, I don't think we would have anything surprising to show you anyway, unless you actually had high expectations for Phenom II. If you own a socket AM2+ motherboard, I would not throw it out quite yet, but I damn sure would not be purchasing a new one.

Duh its ok since Intel copied IMC, HT, the whole package from AMD, its only fair AMD use a naming scheme like the i7:P
    Meh :P

They copied them because otherwise nobody will be on AMD's side :P

    Now you can say,
"Intel maybe is faster but they stole AMD's formula!!! So they are meaners! AMD is slow, but they are admirable!" yada yada...
