I thought you would be using the Windows Messenger

Having several IM networks is another problem like having several archive formats to manage. I find opera doing IRC especially useful. Else I'll have to switch to xchat (I use xchat even pidgin does irc).
:)
i don't use irc. i don't even know how it works. never had the need... :D

i was using WLM (and MSN messenger) all this time. the new builds were having problems with connecting to yahoo (sometimes it works, sometimes doesn't) and gmail was out of the question anyway...also, it became more unstables...file transfers stopped in the middle of the transfer for some reason and never continued from there...all these problems made me search for something...new.

i tried several other multi protocol ims such as Miranda and Trillian and found Pidgin to be quite fast and trouble free. yes, it lacks some of the msn messenger's text formating...but gives more in return...

until trillian astra is released (it's awesome looking, but not sure what will the final user experience be like), i will be sticking with pidgin.

I checked out the Trillian page on wikipedia, seems to be fantastic, it even supports skype! I will really like that it includes wikipedia instant lookup.

I don't use irc to chat but to download! You will like irc if you read ebooks (not subject books, but books like novels). For searching and downloading ebooks irc is better than any p2p network, and bittorrent is useless about novels.

Since you've said, you don't like books :( It's no use of me trying to get you on irc, but if are curious to try out a new protocol check this irc channel with opera or another irc client ;)
