FX5200? It's even slower than MX440 in raw hardware performance perspective. But MX440 doesn't have DirectX8 or 9 hardware support. If it had, FX5200 will be owned by MX440 :D

You can't. You can't even play NFS MW at 640x480 :D
Intel's onboard 945G is faster than that.

Yeah, I could unlock the other 4 pipes. Too bad this thing doesn't have a power connector. I can't overclock beyond 490MHz on core. It doesn't give any artifacts. The driver resets automatically at 500MHz. I think 75W is not enough at max load at 500MHz and up. I couldn't use X850XT PE clocks because of that.

Since Vista x64 doesn't support ATI Tool because of the signed drivers only restriction, I had to set the overclocked clocks in BIOS. Now it's always overclocked. X850XT is only 520/560 and it easily beats 7600GT in raw performance (wished it has SM3.0 support :(). Mine is very close to X850XT with 486/526.

well did you try to flash the gto bios to a x850 and underclocking untill no artifacts occur.?? hw much 3d mark scores d you get??

I flashed to X850XT but it was giving me problems - driver resets even at the desktop. I found at techPowerUp forums that using X850XT BIOS won't give any performance advantages over the X800GTO BIOS.

Can't remember the 3dmark scores. I tested them in Vista and when the driver support wasn't that great. And also, 3dmark06 takes SM3.0 tests into consideration so I must have got lower marks than a comparative SM3.0 supported card. However, it was 5xxx and 2xxx in 3dmark05 and 06.

In DirectX, at stock speeds X1950 is faster. Much faster. But 7900GS tends to overclock a lot, and it will then perform better than an overclocked X1950Pro.

But in OpenGL, 7900GS is faster even at stock clock speeds.

There isn't much of a noticeable difference between the two. You should be fine with either one. 7900GS might overclock to 600MHz whereas 1950Pro is pretty much at its max clock speed. It's more of a personal preference. I would go for the ATI because ATI has very less trouble with their drivers in Vista. Performance wise, both are pretty much the same. You wouldn't notice a difference. 512MB will not necessarily speed things up because the differences between X1950XT 256MB and 512MB is marginal. But 512MB will feel nice :D
