A police request to stop an opposition demonstration near Hulfsdorp was turned down by courts today morning.

Keselwatte OIC IP Udeni Wijebandara sought an order from the Colombo Chief Magistrate Champa Janaki Rajaratna to prevent the demonstrators advancing.

The Magistrate said that the police had sufficent powers to act on their own and therefore there was no necessity for a separate court order.
