A member of the ‘poster corps’ formed under the supervision of Sri Lanka Ports Authority chairman Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrama, fell to his death from a three-storey building at the Kelaniya yard, said SLPA sources.
Identified as Liyanage from Matara, he had been employed at prime mover section of Jeya Container Terminal.
Although he is dead, chairman Priyath has requested Colombo National Hospital authorities to keep him connected to a life supporting machine at the ICU in order to mislead his family and fellow workers. He has instructed that the machine be disconnected from him only after the presidential election, as his death would create a massive uproar among port workers.
