As far as I know, the copyrights of Sawanka melody was bought by Bathiya and Santhush. So no other Sri Lankan owns those rights. Mata Aloke is a copy cat to a such a degree, that even lyrics from the sinhala adoptatio of the song is used.

Before posting Lich, remember that there are peole older than you who can remember the past well. Listen to this original song by Jikki (Krishna Veni) before commenting further.

Mata aloke (original version)

And in the Players Lounge, "Pardeshi Pardeshi Jaana Nahi" part comes from the film "Raja hindusthani". If Iraj has bought the rights then it a copycal, if he has not bought it then it's stolen.

The best example of buying rights is the song "Pretty woman" in Kal Ho Na Ho. Still it's a copycat, but it's not stolen.
seems u have knw some things in the music industry.. i thought u just a doctor.. anyway as far as i can say is about Sawanka Iraj did it first. coz he performed it 2004. but to be honest i think he never thought some one get the same melody and do it. so he didnt thought much about taking the rights to that melody. but end of the day . bathiya did it.

The phrase copt /stolen was used because of that. There is a hot debate about who did "Sawanka" first (even among Iran & BnS, seed in Ridma chonicle of Divayina news paper).

There is no problem adopting melodies (that's when rights are bought), but still it's a copy. There have been many of them From Master Amaradeva and Nanda Malini to Kasun Kalhara every body at some stage adopted foreign melodies. Kasun's "Mal Mitak" song is adapted from the music of film "Jack and the magic bean". But it's not shamelessly copied and melody of that song was not used in his. Same with Amaradeva's "Nim Him sewwa" (don't listen to the current version, the original was sung without percussion instruments. The original english melody had notes dedicated to the percussion instruments. But Master Amaradeva removed that extra notes for the percussion and sang it.

But the current fellows are doing it as Jothipala. Shamelessly copying the melodies.

Anyway I feel sorry about Tamil musicians being so bankrupt to copy Iraj.

    Not good idea..

Indeed, musicians and aritist's in India do copy tunes from the west and also from Sri Lanka. Why such a furore? As for suing, think before doing any such thing as then the Indians can sue for everything we got!!
