If only you are gonna overclock. U can get to ~3.6GHz with stock cooling without much trouble I think.

    I actually have an E7200 (stock 2.53GHz) and OCed and running always at 3.8GHz stable.

    U don't need to buy a quad core as a core 2 duo at 3GHz or above will not bottleneck a 8800GT or even a HD4850. It is when you spend USD500 on a graphics system that a cheap USD100-150 CPU doesn't sound quite right, and you need to spend USD300 or so on the CPU :P

    For a USD150 VGA, why would you spend USD300 on the CPU? Spend USD150 and get the best out there. That's for the balance. :)

    My choice is E7300. You can easily get it to around 3.6GHz on stock cooling. That's faster than anything out there at stock. Even the E8600 will not be faster than that at stock, and that's more than two times expensive. You decide. It is not our money :D
