The demonstrations drew attention to the LTTE's vile nature that led it not only to assassinate a Cabinet member (Trade Minister Jeyeraj Fernandopulle) but also to kill in the process a number of innocent athletes and onlookers at a Sinhala and Tamil New Year sports event at Weliweriya last month.  The demonstrators also referred to the attempted assassination of Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge.
