one lil' question, though intel supports grapihcs on linux is it enough? i mean they say that their driver doesnt run on xserver 1.5 only 1.4 and it's branches...does this mean theres no drivers for newer distros? :( though i have 16x PCIe slot i still have to beg dad for a new graphics card thats not gonna work:P
most intel graphics cards are supported by new distros.
What's the GPU chipset and the distro you're using ?

G31 chipset, intel graphics are better on linux[than in windows(to me)] cos they use OpenGL intel graphics are not better on DX may be because there are so much pre-made functions in DX to go in thru hardware i thnk

i dont find any good reason for intentionally using apt-get in place of synaptic like gui based installer.:oo:

Distro from scratch ? that's ambitious. Do you plan to roll out your own kernel and packages ?
That's way above my capabilities but you can get good help from the local lug. There are some guys there who has kernel hacking knowledge and creating packages in the lk lug.

Well, I dont know how kernels work to even try to hack one on my own. So rolling my own kernel is not likely to happen anytime soon.
I have used the debain-live scripts to roll out my own custom made live CDs though.
