MLB 07 The Show (PSP)

MLB 07â€™s game modes will be familiar to anyone who played last yearâ€™s game, and itâ€™s remarkably similar to the PS2 version, though you will have to contend with some lengthy load times. You can play a quick game, call the shots in manager mode, hop online, embark on a career, play multiple seasons, take part in a home-run derby, or try to become king of the diamond. The king-of-the-diamond mode is a timed game where you pick a pitcher and hitter and duel the opposing team on a field thatâ€™s filled with obstacles and targets that penalize or reward you for where you hit the ball. Itâ€™s not all that deep, but itâ€™s a fun diversion if youâ€™re looking to play a quick, stress-free game. Franchise mode is still missing in action, but the game does have a season mode. Youâ€™ll be able to play or simulate games, trade players, sign free agents, and this year, you can edit your player rosters, as well as download new ones. You can even jump out of a game youâ€™ve already begun and simulate it, which is one of the PS2 versionâ€™s interesting features.

The Bigs (PSP)

The BIGS has a lot in common with MidwayÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s Slugfest series; the games move along at a brisk pace and there are plenty of gargantuan home runs, as well as some absolutely filthy pitches. On the mound, each of your pitches is mapped to a face button on the controller. To throw a pitch, you simply press the corresponding button and hold it until youÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢ve gone past the mark on the meter. If you wait too long or release too early, your location will be off and youÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢ll tip your pitch to the batter. Each pitch is rated according to the pitcherÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s ability to throw it. This ability decreases as the game goes on, but the change can be accelerated by giving up hits. The harder the pitch is hit, the less effective it will be, and eventually, youÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢ll lose the ability to throw the pitch completely. This isnÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t a huge problem when playing a single game because youÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢ve got plenty of pitchers at your disposal, but itÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s an issue in rookie challenge because a pitcherÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s stamina level carries over from game to game

justice League Heroes (PSP)

Justice League Heroes uses the same basic technology that powered Snowblind StudiosÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢ first real hit, BaldurÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s Gate: Dark Alliance, though in the process of scaling down to the PSP hardware itÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s lost some of the finer graphical details. Justice League Heroes still has a really clean look to it. The environments, while relatively small, cover a wide range of locations. Though thereÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s not a terrific variety of enemies within each level, the enemies youÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢ll face change as you travel to new areas. The overhead camera perspective keeps the action from feeling as grand as you might expect from this band of superheroes, some of the outdoor environments look a little grainy, and the occasional overuse of light and particle effects can create a little slowdown. At this point, itÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s not going to blow anyoneÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s mind, but Justice League Heroes looks well put together.

Parappa The Rapper (PSP)

Playing PaRappa the Rapper in 2007 is a little bit like trying to fight in a modern war with an ancient spear you dug up out of some archeological site. The game is a relic of a time when rhythm games were just trying to get their footing. ItÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s far more interesting as something to look back on than it is something to play in an age when the rhythm genre has gone and leapt several tall buildings from where it was a decade ago. So itÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s a bit curious that PaRappa would see a release as a proper $30 PSP game as opposed to a cheaper PlayStation Network download, which has been the case with several other notable PS games. The added content in the form of a tacked-on multiplayer mode and some downloadable remixes isnÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t enough to justify the price tag either, so what youÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢re left with is an overly expensive curiosity from the past that probably wonÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t hold your attention for terribly long
