Abductions and disappearances have become a part of daily life in Sri Lanka indicating the breakdown of the law and order in the country, the leader of opposition and United National Party, Ranil Wickremasinghe has said.

Wickremasinghe has pointed out that within the last six months 56 disappearances had been reported in the country and 19 of them took place during the period of UNHRC sessions in Geneva alone. This is a very sad and serious situation, he has added.

He has noted that the government has failed to bring the culprits of such incidents to justice subjecting the country to shame and discredit both locally and internationally.

He has pointed out that it is the government's responsibility to provide an atmosphere for all citizens to live without fear and be secure.

Instead, this government has created a culture in which the common people as well as businessmen, journalists and even political leaders go missing, the opposition leader has said.
