The topic starter is immature and with a very weak mind. You CANNOT single out ONE animal and then pay special attention to that.

In Sri Lanka pigs are also slaughtered inhumanely. Pigs don't just drop dead if you didn't know that.

Here are some photos:

The below pictures are from CAMBODIA, a Buddhist country.

So I like to ask the thread starter and others: NOW WHAT??

Do you HATE pork eaters as well???

I also like to pose you a question: Do you "Judge" people on whether they eat beef (or from now on Pork )??

Are you saying that people who eat beef are bad and you are better?

IF EATING BEEF IS A SUCH A "TERRIBLE" THING THEN:

So, if somebody wants to be a friend, say in office, you have to ask them whether they eat beef or not???

So you find out a very good friend of yours eats BEEF. What is your reaction going to be? Are you going to avoid him and find him really bad?

What if your friends don't eat beef but eat pork, mutton and chicken? Are you OK with them? They are OK since they don't eat beef to which you give very high priority to???

Are you doing to tell you kids to avoid children who eat beef? So you have to tell them to be "check" what they eat???

See, what these types of things leads to "ridiculous" situations??

Asking to refrain from ONLY eating beef alone is ridiculous. So is it OK to eat pork, mutton and chicken or fish? The original poster won't say his because he knows very well that the other Buddhists themselves will object to it if he says not to eat any kind of meat or fish.

Have you seen how pigs are killed? Pigs are killed in much worse way. They are first beaten while they are alive. Then then are tied to a pole and fed hot water and then only slaughtered. Some pigs are burnt alive and hammered to death.

Here is a pig being butchered by Buddhist Thai farmers (yes in Buddhist Thailand by Buddhists themselves).

Here is a pig being slaughtered. Another one.

Unlike a cow which will die in a matter of minutes a pig will take much longer. So what is your next thread?? Dont Eat Pork ...............????

The argument that cows provide milk and hence should be spared is also illogical. Chickens provide eggs, which are pound for pound better than milk, but I am quite sure that some of the people who put comments like "harak mas kana unta hena gahapiya" eat chicken.

The argument that animals who provide certain things like milk should not be killed is also very illogical since you are then implying that it is OK to kill and consume animals that are of no use to humans in other ways. A pig is a good example of this.

So you cannot give SPECIAL STATUS to certain animals, especially if you are a Buddhist.

Most Buddhists are very emotional (By the way, I am a Buddhist). We don't think rationally or logically. We just can't. One of the many reasons Buddhist countries are so backward in science and technology.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in eating beef or any other meet as long as you buy it from the market. It is NOT breaking the 1st precept.

An NO, you are not "encouraging" the killing of animals by buying it from the market. That is when you analyze from just from an economics point of view of supply and demand. In doing so you equate Buddhism to a worldly science such as economics. Buddhism is much more that that. According to Buddhism nobody can "defile" another. Because if you can do that nobody can achieve enlightenment because your enemies can always "defile" you and control you.

The sin of killing cows (or pigs etc) solely revolves around the cow and the person who slaughters it. It has nothing to do with the people who buy it from the market. People who buy meat from the market have no "intention" of killing an animal. They just buy it because it is available.

Muslim countries ban alcohol and pork because it is RELIGIOUS LAW?? Is there a law in Buddhism which bans the eating of Beef and drinking of alcohol?? Is Sri Lanka government by Buddhist Law??? NO. since there is not such thing called Buddhist laws to govern a country.

Here is what one of the most popular Buddhist preaches of the present time Ajahn Brahmavamso has to say about this subject. He is quite clear in this that and says "Monks and nuns may eat meat. Even the Buddha ate meat."

Here is what one of our own Dr V. A. Gunasekara has to say about it. It it very clear and he shows that "The next (third) degree of involvement is when the consumer buys the meat on the open market. The Buddha seems to have considered this as satisfying the three-fold rule and it is deemed karmically neutral. "

Buddhist who "brag" that they don't eat beef in-fact make a complete mockery of Buddhism and themselves but then again it is very difficult or impossible to talk "sense" with people like that.
