If you need the same Adobe Illustrator design in both RGB (for digital use) and CMYK (for printing), the best approach is to create your design once and prepare two versions.

    Recommended workflow

    1. Start with RGB

    Recommended
    • Create a new Illustrator document in RGB Color Mode.
    • Design your artwork, choose colors, and complete the layout.
    • RGB is ideal for websites, social media, screens, and digital advertisements.

    2. Create the CMYK version

    • Save a copy of your completed RGB file.
    • Open the copy and go to File → Document Color Mode → CMYK Color.
    • Check the colors carefully. Some bright RGB colors may become duller or less vibrant in CMYK.
    • Adjust colors if necessary for printing.

    3. Export both versions

    • Digital: Export PNG, JPG, or SVG as needed, using RGB.
    • Printing: Export a print-ready PDF using the printer's requested CMYK profile and settings.
    • Keep the original .ai files so you can edit the designs later.

Export artboards to separate print-ready PDFs in Adobe Illustrator

How should you organize your files?

For example, if you're designing a product advertisement:
    Product Advertisement
    --Product-Ad-RGB.ai
    --Digital design master
    --Product-Ad-CMYK.ai
    --Print design master
    --Product-Ad.png
    --RGB digital export
    --Product-Ad-Print.pdf
    --Print-ready PDF

Important: Should you start with RGB or CMYK?

It depends on the type of design.
    Your situationBest starting point
    Mostly digital, occasional printingRGB
Mostly professional printingCMYK, using the printer's specifications
Both are equally importantRGB is a reasonable starting point, but check print colors early
Uses neon or very vibrant colorsTest CMYK conversions before finalizing the design

My recommendation: If you regularly need both versions, keep two separate .ai files rather than repeatedly switching the same file between color modes. This makes it easier to maintain different colors for digital and print output.
One important detail: RGB-to-CMYK conversion is not perfectly reversible. If you need the colors to look as similar as possible in both versions, use the intended output color profiles and check a print proof before producing a large batch.

    1. File → Save As යන්න.
    • Design-RGB.ai
    • Design-CMYK.ai

    Design-CMYK.ai file
    1. File menu
    2. Document Color Mode
    3. CMYK Color
