Royal Vs Rajans
Seventh win for golden boys !!
If you can beat the strong Ananda team, then winning against any other side is just a formality
especially if you have already won six. This was the case when Royal took on Dharmaraja Kandy last week. it was their sixth match on their home turf and all their previous matches on home turf had ended with Royal emerging victorious in every game.
It was the bowlers who laid the foundation by skittling the Kandy team for a paltry 65 runs after they had made a formidable 255 runs. It was pleasing to note Royals main glitch, to an otherwise perfect season, the failure of the openers is well sorted and moving on the right direction with the opener Sahan Hettiarachchi finding his lost form just before the Bigmatch. After having scored a couple of fifties and fourties in the previos matches he was in perfect touch again by scoring a good fifty, but it was Kithuruwan who stole the limelight by scoring a blistering 86 runs. For the Dharmarajians, it was Prasad Silva who toiled hard in the scorching heat and his efforts earned him 6 hard earned wickets.
When the Rajans batted after tea on day one, the opening bowlers of royal, lead by the skipper himself stuck to a fiery line. Whilst he was busy making the batsmen hop around, it was his partner in crime Lakshan Landewala who made the batsmen sweat with the swing he generated. This lanky left armer has the knack of getting early wickets and even today he achieved that in his first over. The spinners didn’t have a major role to play but they ensured that the Rajans never recovered as they wiped the tail with ease.it was only Buwaneka who provided any form of resistance if their was any with a gritty 31.
Batting the second time after being asked to follow on with a deficit of 191 runs the Rajans tried hard to salvage a draw with Buwaneka and Rahula Ekanayake battling it out in the middle by scoring 31 and 70 respectively but their efforts were in vain as they found themselves back in the pavilion. I n the end Royal finished the game by lunch with the Rajans managing 178 runs in the second essay. For royal it was Lakshan who shone with the ball as he removed three top order batsmen. He was ably supported by Maneesha who claimed four wickets. Maneesha has leap frogged Haroon in claiming the most wickets for royal this season and this has made him the main striker for Royal and a potent threat for the Thomians come this Big Match.
In the end Royal won the game by an innings and thirteen runs with two full sessions left. This enabled them to go and watch the Thomians in action against the Josephians, where their counterparts were having a torrid time. The next game is what the we believes to be the toughest encounter for Royal and undoubtedly the most looked forward game this season with Royal taking on the high riding Peterites next week. Both teams are equal in every aspect and it would probably be a close affair with the Peterites having a slight edge.
Royal: 255 (Kithruwan Withanage 86, Sahan Hettiarachchi 52, Kusal Perera 28, Chalaka Bogoda 22, Yasitha Abeykoon 18: Prasad Silva 6 for 80, R.Y. Bandara 2 for 53, Rahula Ekanayake 2 for 62).
Dharmaraja: 64 (Buwaneka Ekanayake 31: Lakshan Landewela 3 for 18, Ramitha Rambukwella 2 for 4, Maneesha Tantrigoda 2 for 10, Yasitha Abeykoon 2 for 24) and 178 (Rahula Ekanayake 70, Buwaneka Ekanayake 31, Prasad Silva 25: Maneesha Tantrigoda 4 for 71, Lakshan Landewela 3 for 27).
