Rs.1,000 wage hike for public sector in tomorrow's budget

Government sector employees will receive a pay hike of Rs. 1,000 from July with the announcement coming in Tuesday's national budget, official sources said.

The salary hike will be given in two stages under the budget which will be presented by Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne in Parliament on Tuesday afternoon.

This additional allowance would cost the government Rs.7 billion, officials said.
